Sorry this is so late. I hope it still might be of interest.

We spent last weekend at Scooteney Reservoir, 10 miles south of Othello, off
Highway 17. Both evenings we were there, sandhill cranes came in to the
North end of the lake to spend the night. I am not good at estimating but
based on the number of flocks we saw coming in and the average number in each
flock, I am sure there were at least a thousand. Going to sleep with the
sound of their callng was a delight.

The cranes were landing on a sandbar near the North end of the lake. They
were visible from the campground but distant. I'm not positive but it seemed
that if you stopped up near the dam, on Coyan Rd., you might have a good view
of them coming in. They left early in the morning, before 6:00 daylight
savings time on Sunday.

Also, there are American Kestrels living in the campground. They were
cooperative in letting me get some pictures. We saw Northern Flickers,
Chukars, lots of Killdeer, a couple of Common Loons, hundreds of Canada
Geese, some House Finches, House Sparrows, Song Sparrows, gulls (which would
not cooperate so I could properly identify them), Norther Harriers, Brewer's
Blackbirds, Cliff Swallows, Black-billed Magpies and Western Meadowlarks.

Oh, are we supposed to report all turkey vulture sightings? I haven't seen
that specifically said but with the reports, I am assuming such. Anyway, we
saw 9 turkey vultures circling the I-90 exit to Roslyn at about 5:10PM,
Sunday, April 7th.
