Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday April 18. If you have anything to add call Harry

A RUFF was at the Kirtland Road Sewage Ponds near White City during the
week, but left during the April 13 storm.

A bright male HOODED ORIOLE was at Fields April 17.

The main spring migration is now underway. The most conspicuous were
sparrow, swallows, flycatchers, and VAUX'S SWIFTS. The first flocks of
SOOTY SHEARWATERS are now off the coast. A LEACH'S STORM-PETREL was at
the South Jetty of the Columbia River April 14. The next day two
FORK-TAILED STORM-PETRELS were there.

Large numbers of shorebirds are now at Bandon, including a LONG-BILLED
CURLEW and a WHIMBREL. A LESSER GOLDFINCH was at yaquina Bay April 12,
and another was at Gearhart April 14. On April 10 over 15 breeding
plumaged RED-NECKED GREBES were on Yaquina Bay. A BROWN PELICAN was at
Tierra Del Mar, north of Pacific City April 14. Six MARBLED GODWITS were
near Astoria April 13.

SANDHILL CRANES are now peaking on Sauvie Island. On April 14 over 2000
arrived on the Island. Among the swarm of shorebirds during the week at
the newly created marsh in North Portland's Delta Park were several
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS. A SAY'S PHOEBE was at Oaks Bottom in Portland last
week-end.

A RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER is now at Grand Rond in Polk County. On April 14 a
SAGE THRASHER and a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE were in the Cascades at Detroit
Flats. On April 16 a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK was near Grants Pass.

Eight WHIMBRELS were at Lower Klamath NWR April 14.
