Seattle, 18 April. Working at home today. At almost noon, the yard is full
of birds all of a sudden. It's amazing how they move through in waves. At
least 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, two of them males displaying to each other.
A female Townsend's and male Audubon's Yellow-rumped Warbler were at the
fountain at the same time, with a kinglet waiting its turn, until a big
lumbering squirrel came up to drink and chased them all away. Minutes
later, a second Townsend's Warbler came to the fountain, I guess a more
brightly marked female. I can't emphasize enough how many migrant passerines
this fountain has attracted to my yard. I think they can hear the sound of
running water from a long distance.
