Those of you who are interested in butterflies -- and many birders
are branching out in that direction -- will be excited to know that
Robert Michael Pyle's long-awaited new book on The Butterflies of
Cascadia has just been published by the Seattle Audubon Society. It
is a beauty. A small advance shipment arrived a day or two ago and
copies are now available in person and by mail or telephone order at
the Seattle Audubon Society Nature Shop, 8050 35th Avenue NE,
Seattle, WA 98115, tel 206-523-4483 (hours Mon-Sat 10-4). The book
will be available through other retail channels as soon as the main
shipment arrives and can work its way through distribution channels
-- probably two to four weeks. The coverage is Washington and Oregon
plus a bordering fringe in British Columbia, Idaho, northwestern
Nevada, and Northern California -- 192 species, innumerable
full-color photographs and illustrations, range maps. 420 pages, 8.5
by 5.5 inches, flexibound cover. ISBN 0-914516-13-2. Retail price
$29.95.

The Butterflies of Cascadia exemplifies the long and distinguised
tradition of natural history publishing by the Seattle Audubon
Society, going back to its Trailside Series that originated in the
1940s. Bob Pyle's first book, the groundbreaking Watching Washington
Butterflies, was published in this series in 1974.

The Seattle Audubon Society protects birds and the natural
environment by involving volunteers and the community in education,
advocacy, preservation, science, and enjoyment. All profits from
sale of this book go to support its work.
