Subject: Whooping Cranes????

Today, east of Mansfield (Douglas Co., eastern Wash.) a friend and I saw
a large flock of Sandhill Cranes. With them were 5 all white birds,
slightly larger, with black on their wings. We could see long legs
sticking out behind. What else could they be, except Whooping
Cranes? Unfortunately they were circling higher and higher, and it was
quite windy on the ground, and they were moving north. Tried to follow
them, but were unsuccessful in relocating the flock.

I've always wondered if we could see both Swainson's and Roughlegged Hawks
on the same day. Well, we did today. Five Swainsons and one
Roughlegged. Meredith Spencer and Richard Hendrick
