Hi all,
I thought I'd summarize what I learned from those that responded to
my CASSIN'S FINCH query last week. Thanks to the 5 or 6 that
responded.

People in Chuwach Valley, Leavenworth, Walla Walla area and Spokane
region report CASSIN'S FINCHES at this time. Those that get them at
their feeders indicate that they return in March or April; some stick
around all summer, but at lower elevations they seem to stay only
until they're ready to move up to breeding areas. Apparently they
already have fresh and bright head feathers when they arrive and
certainly by now, suggesting that they perhaps replace those feathers
before returning...

Reports were somewhat sparse, so the spring molting question is not
entirely resolved.
