Hello Tweeters,
Have not done my neighbourhood bird survey in a while! Terrible. Sometime
this week. I did, however, go on a field trip to Serpentine Fen near White
Rock on Sunday. I am a field trip good luck charm; almost all (except for
1)field trips I have gone on, there has been no rain! Same for this trip,
even though it was quite cloudy. I was very happy with the number of species
for this kind of day: 32! I'll see if I can remember them all:
1. Brown-headed Cowbird
2. Mallard
3. American Wigeon
4. Rufous Hummingbird
5. Great Blue Heron
6. Common Yellowthroat
7. Yellow-rumped ("Myrtle") Warbler
8. Ruddy Duck
9. Eurasian Wigeon
10. Green-winged Teal
11. Greater white-fronted Goose
12. Canada Goose
13. Tree Swallow
14. Barn Swallow
15. Violet-green Swallow
16. Northwestern Crow
17. American Robin
18. Savannah Sparrow
19. Killdeer
20. Red-tailed Hawk
21. Northern Harrier
22. Double-crested Cormorant
23. Bufflehead
24. American Coot
25. Ruby-crowned Kinglet
26. Ring-necked Duck
27. Greater Scaup
28. Bald Eagle
29. Spotted Towhee
30. Red-winged Blackbird
31. Northern Pintail
32. Marsh Wren
wow! I do have a memory. There were 13 of us in the group, and I was 1 of
the 3 with a scope! I feel like a true birder now.
Need to get out to the Reifel Migratory Bird sanctuary again soon, to check
on what's happening there. Plus Iona Regional Park, and I will be heading to
Ocean Park in White Rock soon. Birding..I love it!!!!
