I recently returned from a trip to S. Florida to visit my family and ID some birds that I grew up with. Here is a list based on what I remember that may help to bring a little more sun and warmth to our birding adventures here in Washington. :-)

4/13/02
Lake Okeechobee, FL - from Dad's airboat

Crested Caracara
Glossy Ibis in breeding plumage
Great Egret
Common Tern?
Least Bittern
Boat-tailed Grackle
Mockingbird
Snowy Egret
Limpkin
Osprey
Anhinga - saw a rookery/heronry? with young in nest - boy were they ugly! :-)
American Coot
Purple Gallinule
Common Moorhen

Okeechobee, FL - parents' house

Red-bellied Woodpecker at feeder

Gatorland - Kissimmee, FL

Gray Catbird (have pic if interested)
Cattle Egret in breeding plumage and on nests (have pic if interested)
Greater Flamingos - very pink (Sibley says that's a sign of a good diet) - have pics if interested
White Ibis
Glossy Ibis in breeding plumage and on nests (have pic if interested)

Black Skimmers - approximately 150 in parking lot with Ring-billed Gulls (have pics if interested)

Unidentified swallows (too fast!)

Ring-billed Gull
Unidentified terns (too far away to ID in flight)
