This morning, the yard seemed nearly empty of birds. Very puzzling. After two windy, cold days, I'd expect them to be taking advantage of the warmth and sunshine. Nary a robin on the lawn, didn't see the mourning dove pair napping in the driveway, no birds using the bird bath.

This afternoon, I found a headless robin in the driveway. Sharpie or Cooper's maybe has everything spooked? (I'd be spooked if one of my neighbors lost his head.) Scanned the trees but didn't see an accipiter. Would a sharpie or Cooper's still be this low in the Basin? When do they move uphill?

I would be thrilled to see one in the yard, but I hope it didn't get "my" mourning doves. I have to admit, I fallen in love with my doves.
