Hello Tweeters,
A few notes about the Lacy Clear Cut.This was a hotspot in the past.Many
good species was sighted there,including the first Dragonflies (the
California Darner Aeshna california')
Birds as the Northern Goshawk (sighted four times)Clay-colored Sparrow,Blue
Grouse,Vesper Sparrow and high count on Shipping Sparrows,and some years
Lazuli Bunting.I believe it was Eric Kraig introduced us to this birding
spot.
Going there i discovert there also was Dragonflies in large numbers,early
the California Darner.We was going there last week,and discovert that this
place is off limit do to developing."NO TREEPASSING" Singn,and as it looked
that this might beeing done as a gravel pit.There also where no Dragonflies
around.
Today we searched the area out around the Clear Cut and i saw 2 California
Darners,i did not have a net ,but i could tell also this is our first
species what appears that early.To my surprise as i run in to Patrick(i was
wondering what took him so long since he was checking out a bird)he had a
Darner in his hand.This is not easy to do to catch , Darners usual flying
verry fast,even with a net you could miss them,and he catched one by
hand.Records there in 1999 whereApril 19 and i believe last year was close
to that.
This is proable the first Darner of this season ,since there where non last
weekend.Also last weekend on our Columbia Gorge trip,where we had hundred of
smal Damsels emerging from the pond in Maryshill State Park.We had two
species thereThe Boreal Blut (Enallagma boreale) late this year from the
22nd 2001.The earliest record April 15th
This beeing a cold spring is hard to get Dragonflies early.
I wonder if any one have an insight of this developed land,and if it would
be possible to get an entrance to this on a later date.One good thing is
that there did not cut any trees sofar we can tell,only the Scotch Broom
what a lot of birds prefer as the Shipping Sparrows and other birds.I forgot
to mention that we also had early records of MacGillivray's Warblers in this
Clear Cut
