Good evening tweets,

It wasn't in the cards for me to make it to the coast this weekend, so I consoled myself with an early morning trip to Long Lake Co. Park and an afternoon check of the cove at Home, WA. At both places I saw birds where I didn't expect to see them, and I continued to see some year Firsts for me. At Long Lake I got my first BARN SWALLOWS of the year, but what really surprized me was the small flock of AUDUBON WARBLERS flitting around the reeds over open water about 20 feet off shore. The habitat looked more appropriate to the R.W. BLACKBIRDS in the area.

AT Home I was startled to see my first GREEN HERON of the year at low tide, on a mud flat, a hundred yards from ANY cover. Admitedly it was a juvenile, but it just looked weird out there in the open like that! I guess in both cases it can be explained by migration. If birds are on the move, they might show up anywhere, at least briefly.

Thats it for now.
