Rare Bird Alert for HUDSONIAN GODWIT. Other featured birds are AMERICAN
AVOCET and a possible BLACK-SHOULDERED KITE

Sightings for Sunday, April 28th

In the morning, at the northeast pond at Iona, a breeding plumaged HUDSONIAN
GODWIT was seen by several observers.

At Lost Lagoon in Stanley Park, a TURKEY VULTURE was seen overhead.

Saturday, April 27th

Flying quickly over Farmer's Slough at Blackie's Spit, South Surrey was a
bird fitting the description of a WHITE-TAILED KITE. Confirmation of
this bird is appreciated. Also in South Surrey, at the turf farm near 8th
Avenue and 176th Street were upwards of 170 WHIMBRELS.

At Semiahmoo Trail Pond were a pair of RING-NECKED DUCKS.

A LONG-BILLED CURLEW was seen off Neaves Road about 2 kilometers north of
Dewdney Trunk Road.

An outing to DeBouville Slough, led by the affable Larry Cowan, produced 1
TURKEY VULTURE, 7 OSPREYS, 1 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE and a TRUMPETER SWAN.

At Camosun Bog in Vancouver was an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD.

At Maplewood flats in the east field were 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS while at West
Vancouver's Lighthouse Park, there was a PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER.

At The Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty Compensation Lagoon were 2 BLACK
OYSTERCATCHERS.

At Burnaby Lake were 16 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.

In late reports for April 25th, there were 6 WHIMBRELS at Gilbert Beach in
Richmond, while at Iona, there was an EARED GREBE off the Iona South Jetty
and 4 YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS and 22 RING-NECKED DUCKS at the outer ponds.

Friday, April 26th

Unusual at this location, a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD was seen on the Iona South
Jetty.

At Queen Elizabeth Park were a WESTERN TANAGER, a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER and a
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. At Cecil Green, at UBC, there were 2 TOWNSEND'S
WARBLERS and 2 BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS.

Thursday, April 25th

Near Lougheed Mall, a BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER was seen. At Maplewood
Flats in North Vancouver were two PURPLE MARTINS.

Sightings for Wednesday, April 24th
The arrival NASHVILLE WARBLER was seen on the southwest side of Lost Lagoon
in Stanley Park. Also in the area, close to the lagoon was a tan-stripe
WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.

Four YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS were in the north outer pond at Iona Island.
Also
at Iona were GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS and a GREATER WHITE-FRONTED
GOOSE.

There were also large numbers of DUNLIN and WESTERN SANDPIPERS on the fore
shore, and 4 LEAST SANDPIPERS in the ponds. There are also still large
numbers of scoters massing off the tip of the south jetty.

In a late report for Monday, a bird thought to be a female AMERICAN REDSTART
was seen
briefly in a garden at the 3800 Block of Cambridge Street in North Burnaby.

An OSPREY was seen at Hawthorne Park in North Surrey, at 104th Ave and 144th
Street.

Tuesday, April 23rd

A pair of MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS continued to frequent Burnaby Lake Park.

A female ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD was at Burnaby Mountain Park.

12 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at Reifel, and a further 25 migrated
overhead.

14 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE were at the mouth of Still Creek at Burnaby
Lake.
