Yesterday morning I checked the Kellogg Island martin boxes and gourds, and was pleased to see a fledgling and a number of adults active at a few of the gourds and boxes. At least two adult males were present, but it was difficult to tell the precise number of nests. I viewed them with a spotting scope from the eastern shore, opposite Herring's House Park. The park would probably be a better viewing point at dusk.
The nestlings at Jack Block Park appear to be on the verge of fledging from the 6 nests; at T105 I saw one adult male on a piling, and then the light grew dim around 9pm. This looks like a good year for Seattle martins, relative to the past 20 years or so.
