I got to visit the fill twice this weekend. On Saturday we saw two Osprey in
the tall dead trees. They gave us a show by flying around the tree and
spreading their wings, just for fun, it appeared. I saw western sandpipers on
the north end of the big pond.
Grebes among the lily pads and !! a mama Gadwall and six babies.

On Sunday I saw them again plus a pair of wood ducks that were so
spectacular. I was teaching my daughter to identify the pied billed grebe in
breeding plumage. She had her binoculars on the female wood duck that I
didn't even know was there. I told her about the eye ring on the grebe. She
kept saying the eye ring was much broader than I was suggesting. I grabbed
her binocular and realized she was looking at a female wood duck! Then we
found the male who was already changing to non breeding.
