hi all,
on 7/4 about 4:30 p.m. i observed an odd alcid at ft.flagler near pt. townson. it looked most like a pigeon gillemont with no white on the wings. all dark except lighter on the belly, the latter seen as it dove, legs not red but appeared flesh colored. the bill was all dark, size and shape like guillemont. no white on the undertail coverts, not short necked and wrong bill shape for cassins auklet. the bird was feeding/diving about 100 yards offshore, working parallel to the shore. it would remain on the surface for about a minuet after a dive. the sun was behind me although it was cloudy and raining off and on. i was using a 25x scope.
does anyone have any thoughts on this?
