Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

The EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE that wintered at feeders in Joseph was seen again
there August 4.

On August 4, 16 ELEGANT TERNS were at Coos Bay. 22 were there August 6. That
day two were at the mouth of the Siuslaw River. On August 7 five were at the
Necanicum River mouth at Gearhart.

Early migrant warblers were reported during the week. Northward dispersing
GREAT EGRETS are now increasing in western Oregon. Up to 10 WHITE PELICANS
are now at Coos Bay, and up to 26 are on Sturgeon Lake on Sauvie Island.
Large numbers of shearwaters are now passing close to shore. On August 7,
50,000 SOOTY SHEARWATERS and 3 PINK-FOOTED SHEARWATERS were close off
Gearhart. Two PARASITIC JAEGERS were with them. A POMARINE JAEGER was two
miles off Depoe Bay August 5.

The water levels have dropped on Sauvie Island opening large expanses of
mud. Good numbers of shorebirds are being seen including two SEMIPALMATED
SANDPIPERS and a lone SANDHILL CRANE off Coon Point August 7. A SOLITARY
SANDPIPER was at the almost dry Vanport Wetlands August 6.

On August 5 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Ankeny NWR. Among the many
shorebirds at Fern Ridge Reservoir August 1 was a WHITE-FACED IBIS.

On August 4 a CATBIRD was at Tumalo State Park west of Bend. On August 1 a
SANDERLING was at the Prineville Sewage Ponds, and on August 5 two
SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER were at the Redmond Sewage
Ponds.

Thats it for this week.
