On an eight day backpack encircling Mt. Adams I saw or heard these species:

Sharp-shinned Hawk
Golden Eagle
American Kestrel
grouse (sp)
Rufous Hummingbird
Red-shafted Flicker
woodpecker (sp)
Horned Lark
swallow (sp)
Gray Jay
Clark's Nutcracker
Common Raven
Red-breasted Nuthatch
American Dipper
Rock Wren
Western Bluebird
Townsend's Solitaire
American Robin
Townsend's Warbler
Pine Siskin
Gray-crowned Rosy Finch
Cassin's Finch
Pine Grosbeak
Oregon Junco

Almost all of these species were observed between 6500 and 8400 feet. I find it very difficult to bird while carrying a full pack over rough terrain - so many birds were only partially identified. By far Oregon Juncos were the most frequently observed, followed by Robins and then Clark's Nutcrackers. There may have been several species of hummingbirds present but such small and fast moving birds were seldom seen well even when they fed on various species of paintbrush in the meadows.
