This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Saturday, August 10th, evening update
sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited Stores in Vancouver and North
Vancouver.

The featured bird is SOLITARY SANDPIPER.

Sightings for Saturday August 10th.

Cooper's Hawk
Osprey [Colony Farm]
Merlin [Iona]
Peregrine Falcon [Iona]
Lesser Yellowlegs [Iona]
Solitary Sandpiper
Pectoral Sandpiper [Iona]
Baird's Sandpiper [Iona]
Western Sandpiper [Iona]
Semipalmated Sandpiper [Iona]
Least Sandpiper [Iona]
Red-necked Phalarope [Iona]
Caspian Tern [Tsawwassen Jetty]
Purple Martin [Colony Farm]

Anywhere from 1 to 5 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS continue to be seen in the Iona
Sewage ponds. Birders should use caution in the ponds and stay away from
the trucks
, which have begun excavating the southwest pond. Many LESSER YELLOWLEGS,
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, BAIRD'S, WESTERN, SEMIPALMATED AND LEAST SANDPIPERS
continue to be seen especially at high tide. Also, 1 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPE was seen at high tide today. Two PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 MERLIN and
a COOPER'S HAWK were seen hunting in the Iona sewage ponds today.

Six PURPLE MARTINS and an OSPREY were seen at Colony Farm.

Over 100 CASPIAN TERNS were seen at the Tsawwassen compensation lagoon in
Delta.

There were no sightings for the middle of the week including August 7,8 and
9th of August.
