Sightings for Sunday August 11th.

Four RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were seen in the Iona ponds at
high tide. Iona Sewage ponds were flooded with shorebirds
again today at high tide with up to 2000 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, 3 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 50 LEAST
SANDPIPERS and of interest a light-color variant
shorebird (or leucistic) slightly larger than a Least
Sandpiper the identification has yet to be agreed
upon. The bird was also seen two days earlier at high
tide and birders with shorebird experience may want to
try and identify this bird. Birders should use caution in the ponds and
stay away
from the trucks, which have begun excavating the southwest pond.

Boundary Bay was also filled with thousands of
WESTERN SANDPIPERS, hundreds of LEAST SANDPIPERS
and about 100 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS. There were
400 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS in the fields alond
Highway 10 in Delta, west of 112 street and on the
south side of Highway 10. A SOLITARY SANDPIPER
was at the base of 104th street.

Saturday August 10th.

Anywhere from 1 to 5 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS continue to
be seen in the Iona Sewage ponds. Many LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, BAIRD'S, WESTERN,
SEMIPALMATED AND LEAST SANDPIPERS
continue to be seen especially at high tide. Also, 1
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE was seen at high tide today. Two
PEREGRINE FALCONS, 2 MERLIN and a COOPER'S HAWK were
seen hunting in the Iona sewage ponds today.

Six PURPLE MARTINS and an OSPREY were seen at Colony
Farm.

Over 100 CASPIAN TERNS were seen at the Tsawwassen
compensation lagoon in Delta. WILLET...
