Saw a White Crowned Sparrow yesterday in Orting. Must be time to start feeding
sunflower seeds again.
This little fella was there in the exact same spot today. I remark on that because he
seemed so upset yesterday, I thought he would leave. The County crew came by
and mowed all his lovely tall grass along side the road and then blew the sidewalk
off. I came along and set a point to do Land surveying from and he chipped at me
non-stop while I occupied the point, about 10 minutes. He hopped out on the grass
in one particular place, 6 feet away from me (more or less), as if that spot held some
particular attraction.Surely this is way too late for there to have been a nest that was
destroyed by the clean-up.

Then today, I come back and survey f rom that spot for about an hour. He continued
to chip, non-stop, and hop around excitedly. Comes out on the grass, in the exact
same spot (more or less). Then another white crowned comes in and I think, AH!
someone from his natal group has come to flock up. but no, the other white crowned
chips a bit, then flies off, leaving Mr. Faithful to his chipping and hoping, along side
the road.
