Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 15. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 9 an immature MISSISSIPPI KITE was reported from Baker City. It
could not be relocated. A CAPE-MAY WARBLER was reported August 9 from
Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood. On August 13 a MANX/BLACK-VENTED SHEARWATER
was seen off Boiler Bay.

Numbers of VAUX'S SWIFTS are now gathering at select chimneys in the
Willamette Valley. Peak numbers will occur during late September.

On August 8 a WILLET was at Tillamook Bay. On August 12 a PACIFIC
GOLDEN-PLOVER and a RED KNOT were at Bandon. The next day a group of 11
TATTLERS was there. An early LINCOLN'S SPARROW was at Bandon August 12. A
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was east of Newport August 11. An early DUNLIN was at
the South Jetty of the Columbia River August 10.

On August 14, 12 COMMON TERNS were over Sturgeon Lake near Coon Point on
Sauvie Island. The FRANKLIN'S GULL and the WHITE PELICANS are still being
seen there. On August 10 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Coon Point. A possible
FORSTER'S TERN was at the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove August 8. On
August 6 a MERLIN, a PEREGRINE FALCON, and a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK were at
Ankeny NWR. A WHIMBREL was at Ankeny NWR August 14. Among the many
shorebirds near Brownsville August 12 were a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, a RUDDY
TURNSTONE, and a WHITE-FACED IBIS. A WHITE-FACED IBIS was at Fern Ridge
Reservoir August 9.

On August 7 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Summer Lake.
