This is the VNHS Vancouver Bird Alert for Friday
August 16th, evening update sponsored in part by the

Vancouver.
The featured bird is STILT SANDPIPER and FRANKLINS
GULL.

Sightings for Friday August 16th.
There were 4 STILT SANDPIPERS reported today:
1 at Iona Sewage ponds, 2 at Beach Grove at the
foor of 12th in Tsawassen and 1 at the foot of
112th street in Delta at the Mansion.
At Iona Sewage ponds were many BAIRD'S, LEAST,
SEMIPALMATED, WESTERN AND LEAST SANDPIPERS and
a PEREGRINE FALCON hunting. There was also one
RED-NECKED PHALAROPE in the ponds.
At the Tsawassen compensation lagoon was a FRANKLINS
GULL. There was also a probable juvenile HEERMANS GULL. The WILLET was
also present and the base of the Tsawassen jetty.
Out of town at Mount Cheam East of Chilliwack was a
covey of 6 WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN including 1 hen and
5 juveniles.
Wednesday, August 14th.
A STILT SANDPIPER was seen on the evening high tide at
Beach Grove Lagoon in Tsawassen. Also present were 35 LESSER AND GREATER
YELLOWLEGS and many WESTERN AND LEAST SANDPIPERS.
Tuesday August 13th.
At the Iona ponds were WESTERN, BAIRD'S, PECTORAL,
LEAST, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS as well as a RED KNOT.
2 PEREGRINE FALCONS and a COOPERS HAWK were around
the sewage ponds.
At Blackie Spit were 3 PURPLE MARTINS, one OSPREY and
CASPIAN TERNS.
Dozens of TURKEY VULTURES were seen over the previous
days west of MAPLE RIDGE as well SANDHILL CRANES
have been near the Coast Cranberry farm. 2 GREAT
HORNED OWLS were seen near the Haney wharf in a
subdivision.
August 12th.
At the Iona Sewage Ponds were 3-4000 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS 12 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS, 50 LEAST
SANDPIPERS, 3 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 3 RED-NECKED
PHALAROPES and 3 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.
