Just a breif note. This morning I birded the Montlake
Fill on the University of Washington campus for about
3 hours. When I first arrived the only shorebirds
present were several Killdeer in the gravel "Dime Lot"
parking area. However, about 9:30 there was a flock
of 3 Least and 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper on the main
pond. Around 11:00, after sitting in a crouch for 45
minutes studying the peeps and getting photos of them,
I turned around and stood up only to find a Solitary
Sandpiper about 30 feet behind me. It must have come
in silently as I did not hear it vocalize while I was
watching the peeps.
