For anyone interested, there were a few shorebirds at Jensen last night. I
had the last hour and a half before sunset and did not find anything rare,
but there were good numbers and 12 species. Highlights included 11 BAIRD'S
and 2 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and a high of 50 LESSER YELLOWLEGS (and of course
there were lesser numbers of Greaters as well), all at the high-tide pools
as opposed to the fields beyond the dike. Many ducks were in evidence; I
had several GW TEAL at Jensen, 6 N. SHOVELER here also, and there was one
nice flock of about 15 N. PINTAIL. At the Moore Rd. pond, there was no sign
of shorebird rarities, but there was a nice count of about 12 CINNAMON TEAL
(all imm./females), a couple more GW TEAL, and 4 HOODED MERGS, among other
ducks, all likely local breeders. Wished I'd had a bit more time for Snow
Goose and the fields.
