I have just returned to fill my feeders, after a 5 day absence. One of the
first birds to appear was/is a new one, for me. It is a bit larger than a
house finch, with a thick bill, like a grosbeak. The coloring is very pale,
with very red stripy markings on its crown, nape, rump, belly, flanks &
breast. The coverts are dark with minimal wing bars. Is this a young
grosbeak? I've searched Sibleys & Nat Geo & Stokes, with no success. Any
help is appreciated!
