At 6 pm Tuesday I saw two female Rufous Hummingbirds feeding from the Cape
Fuchia. One was still feeding at 7 pm. She preferred to rest on the stem of
the Verbena bonariensis. Earlier in the day, the pair of California Quail
were in the garden with five of the 18-day-old youngsters. They started out
with 11. The Pileated Woodpecker was in the backyard drumming on the bat box
while the Hairy Woodpecker fed on the suet.
