The only record I have in San Juan Co. of Black-capped Chickadees is one
bird from Lopez Island on a cold winter day (12-4-94) in a apple tree near a
restuarant. I think Lopez being closest to the mainland may be the main
reason most records are from this isand instead of San Juan Is. or others
more distant.

Most of the chickadees around Deception Pass are Chestnut-backed also.
Black-capped seem commoner farther south around the air base just north of
Oak Harbor. Here they have scrubby willows and brush to hide in.
