Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 22. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

A breeding plumaged male LARK BUNTING has been coming to a feeder near
Bandon. Although it may still be in the area it was not seen August 21.

Birds of prey are now on the move especially MERLINS and PEREGRINE FALCONS.
Among the shorebirds BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS are now being regularly reported.
The first numbers of VAUX'S SWIFTS are now going to roost in Willamette
Valley chimneys, including Chapman School in NW Portland and the Agate
Street Chimney in Eugene.

Individual PECTORAL SANDPIPERS were at Bandon and at Yaquina Bay August 15.
Five PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS are now on the North Spit of Coos Bay. About 20
GREAT EGRETS are now along the Siuslaw River east of Florence.

At least 20 WHITE PELICANS are still on Sauvie Island's Sturgeon Lake. The
Coon Point RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen. Two BREWER'S SPARROWS
were at Oaks Bottom in SE Portland August 19. On August 21 a flock of BLACK
SWIFTS was reported over the Clackamas River near McIver State Park.

The Ankeny NWR RED-SHOULDERED HAWK continues to be seen. On August 21 at
least 17 GREAT EGRETS were on the refuge. Two BREWER'S SPARROWS were at Fern
Ridge Reservoir August 17. A COMMON TERN was flying over Agate Lake near
White City August 16.

On August 17 a SANDERLING, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS,
and 3 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at Hatfield Lake near Bend. On August 16 a
RUDDY TURNSTONE was at Gutierrez Ranch in eastern Crook County. On August
14 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was along Hwy 97 at the Klamath/Deschutes County
line. Two days later one was near Sunriver. A GREAT GRAY OWL was at Sunriver
August 15.

A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at Thompson Reservoir west of Summer Lake August
18. A COMMON LOON was on Gerber Reservoir in SE Klamath County August 14.
