This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Saturday, August 25, evening

The Feature bird is BAIRD'S SANDPIPER

Sightings for Saturday, August 24

At the Iona Sewage Ponds tonight on the hightide there were
2 juvenile BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, 2 juvenile PECTORAL SANDPIPERS,
18 juvenile LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 200 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and
100 LEAST SANDPIPERS.

Friday, August 23

RARE BIRD ALERT! Out of Town in an off limits area to the public
a female NORTHERN PARULA was banded this morning Rocky Pt.
Bird Observatory! The consitutes the third record for the Province. For
more
information please call the Victoria Bird Alert at 604 592-3381.

At Beach Grove Lagoon in Tsawwassen at the foot of 12th Ave
1 FRANKLIN'S GULL in 1st winter plumage, 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
and 4 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were reported.
Nearby the WILLET was again present on the southside of the base
of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty.

At Surrey Lake located along 152nd St and near 72nd Ave
the following birds were reported: 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 3 COMMON
SNIPE, 48 KILLDEER and many Yellowlegs.

Outside of Chilliwack on the top of Mount Cheam 2 family groups of
WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN were seen. The alert has no directions for this
location.

Thursday, August 22
The following species were reported from the Reifel Refuge:
1 juvenile HUDSONIAN GODWIT, 4 juvenile STILT SANDPIPERS,
11 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, 1 GREEN HERON, 1 MERLIN.
1 PEREGRINE FALCON & 1 TURKEY VULTURE.

On a boat trip to the Bird and Grebe Islets in West Vancouver the
following birds were reported: 17 HARLEQUIN DUCKS,
7 BLACK OYSTERCATCHERS & 1 BLACK TURNSTONE.

In Surrey near Green Timbers Park an OSPREY was observed.

Wednesday, August 21

At Beach Grove Lagoon at the foot of 12th Ave in Tsawwassen
1 WILSON'S PHALAROPE was observed.

Tuesday, August 20

No Sightings

Monday, August 19th.

There was a late report of a female RUFF known as
a REEVE sighted in the house pond at the Reifel Bird
Sanctuary last seen on Sunday evening.

At the Surrey Lake outflow pond was a SOLITARY
SANDPIPER.

At Tsawwassen ferry terminal was 1 juvenile FRANKLINS
GULL, one female HARLEQUIN DUCK and 3 juvenile
BLACK TURNSTONES.

At Boundary bay on the mudflats were 500 BLACK
BELLIED PLOVERS.

At the Mansion at the foot of 112th street in Delta
were two GOLDEN PLOVERS, 1 STILT SANDPIPER and
one RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.
