A few years ago, my brother, sister and I were birding Minto Island
in Salem, when we came upon a turkey vulture perched in a tree just
above eye level only about a dozen feet away. It seemed to not mind
our presence in the least, content to just sit there, watching
passers-by. As we started to walk on, I turned to offer it some
parting words: "Well, then, carry on!"
