Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 29. If you have anything to add Call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

On August 28 a probable KENTUCKY WARBLER was reported from the Redmond
Sewage Ponds.

The fall migration is now well underway. PINTAIL and GREEN-WINGED TEAL are
now increasing in western Oregon. On the August 24 offshore boat trip out of
Newport 65 RED PHALAROPES, 9 LONG-TAILED JAEGERS, and a SKUA were seen among
the more regular species. The first main nocturnal movement of SWAINSON'S
THRUSHES occurred during the week. Shorebirds, though, still dominate the
reports.

Two RUFFS were at New River south of Bandon August 25. A BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was at Tillamook Bay August 23 and one was at the South Jetty of
the Columbia River the next day. On August 27 a PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER was at
the South Jetty.

The WHITE PELICANS and the Coon Point RED-SHOULDERED HAWK are still being
seen on Sauvie Island. Over 50 GREAT EGRETS are on the Island and lately a
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER has been seen. On August 28 it was at the pond east
of Coon Point.

On August 23 a SANDERLING was at Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend. A group of
19 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and 15 PIPITS were at the Ochoco Reservoir east of
Prineville. On August 24 a CATBIRD was at Riley Pond west of Burns.

Migrants are now showing up at Malheur NWR. An impressive number of BANK
SWALLOWS are now staging on the refuge.

Thats it for this week.
