Tweets - a gorgeous, sunny, hot day, but pretty quiet for birds. It took a
LOT of looking and a lot of patience to ferret out a few highlights:

Green Heron Great look at weir, another near lake
Blue-winged Teal? See below
Pileated Woodpecker Flew right overhead at lake
Warbling Vireo Great looks at several
locations/birds
Red-eyed Vireo At least 3 total
Western Tanager 2-3 birds, some good looks, some cryptic
Orange-crowned Warbler Several beauties
Wilson's Warbler 1-2 males
Black-throated Gray Warbler Nice male at Rowing Club

In the slough just south of the dog area was either a BLUE-WINGED or a
CINNAMON TEAL (female CITE or eclipse male BWTE). By the time we realized
what we were looking at, it had swum away. Neither species has been
reported from Marymoor in the fall before.

As we came out into the East Meadow, we were stunned to see an actual swarm
of BARN SWALLOWS, perhaps 120 in a tight, swirling swarm (spherical in
shape, perhaps 50 feet in diameter, 50 feet up), slowly moving south. After
a couple of minutes they dispersed across the meadow. Presumably they were
feeding on a similarly sized and shaped insect swarm. They remained active
around the meadow for long after, though they did not swarm again.

For the day, 46 species. No new ones for the year, so still at 126 for
2002. Tuesday, Houston Flores had a MOURNING DOVE near the Interpretive
parking lot.
