Subject: Why So Few Western Birds?

Here's a thought to ponder......

While leafing through the countless kitchy catalogs full of stuff I've been receiving, I find myself "birding" them.

It seems like Eastern Birds predominate the "stuff" - ie, plates, mugs, sweatshirt art, calender towels, just about anything....Cardinals and Blue Jays appear the most overused birds. The only Western Bird I've been able to identify on a product is the Goldfinch. Some products have hummingbirds on them, but they look fairly generic to me.

Why no Steller Jays? No Scrub Jays? Why no Western Tanagers? What about the equally flashy Magpie?

How many strictly western birds vrs eastern birds as product decorations?

Any thoughts?
