Thanks for the advice I've received regarding my small target list- due to bad weather and obligations related to my Guatemala mission, I've only had a couple of hours out birding. But, happily, today I saw my first Trumpeter Swans, a huge flock (at least 200 birds) on Francis Road north of Clear Lake. How exciting to see such a group of native swans- my region is pretty much overrun by Mutes.
Here's an interesting RFI- a friend of mine here in Seattle is a fisheries biologist- he's looking for info regarding birding in Skagit County- specifically, the number of recreational birding trips taken within the county- whether by residents or guests- in an average year. His intent is to get some sense of the economic benefits of birding to the county- he's described the project to me, and the simple way to put it is that the interests of fish and birds may come together one this one. Anybody who might have some useful info should feel free to contact me, and I will direct them to my friend. Many thanks!
I'll be chasing more birds upon my return from Guatemala- I'll keep you all posted!
Happy birding,
Ken Allaire
