I left town after my last posting, and only just returned to read the
ensuing discussion.

In my peregrine message I was careless in implying the peregrine chick
had been removed from the nest at the Washington Mutual Tower. My
information was that the young bird had been captured at night near the
Home Depot on First Avenue, about a mile south of the WAMU nest site.

I don't regard falconers as poor human beings, but I do believe is it
unwise for the state to allow the harvest of a species that has not
fully recovered from near disaster. And it is necessary to have an
objective source of information about peregrine population statistics
and the potential risk to the species from that harvest.
