I and many other birders have seen the BEAN GOOSE in the Bowerman Basin
area today, 12/12. Brad Wilson reported it this morning on a playing field
at Gable Ball Park, which is on Hwy 109 just west of Hoquiam High
School. I found it there at 9:30 am with a group of about 50 miscellaneous
Canada Geese, and it was great to be able to watch it from inside the car
while the rain pelted down outside! At 10:50, all the geese flew off
towards Bowerman Basin, where they landed in a weedy field on the southwest
corner of the intersection of Paulson Rd (the turn-off for the airport) and
Hwy 109. They were still there when I left about 12:30. Earlier in the
morning, I think others saw this bunch of geese out by the airport. They
seem to move around quite a bit, but don't seem to go very far.
Many thanks to the indefatigable Ruth and Patrick Sullivan for finding the
Bean Goose and to all those who have been posting updates.
