The Glaucous Gull previously found and reported by Richland birder Bob
Woodley remains in the area of Columbia Point/Yakima River delta as of 9 AM
today. Thank you, Bob. This gave me my 250th Benton County bird species of
a theoretical 303 (or is it 306, kind of depends on who's making the list)
possible on the current Benton County check list. Anyway, this was almost
too easy. Drove to Columbia Point, got out of the rig, started to scan the
Columbia River and Yakima River delta, a flock of 30+ gulls rose off the
delta mudflats and flew towards the marina north of I-182, the Glaucous Gull
pealed off from the flock and dropped practically at my feet to inspect the
spawned-out salmon carcasses on the shoreline.

The reason we do not deserve, as a matter of right, the benefits that
flow from the exercise of our talents is
that we cannot take credit for those talents in the first place. That a
market society values the skills some
people happen to have is their good fortune, not a measure of their moral
merit. We should not regard the
bounty and prestige the market bestows on them as a reward for superior
virtue.
