Dee Sliney and I participated in the Tillamook County CBC on Saturday
12/14/02. We encountered 4 red phalaropes during the day in Rockaway
Beach/Twin Rocks, 2 on Front Street off of Washington in Rockaway Beach, one
off N6th Street west of the Timberlake development in Rockaway Beach and
the last one at Spring lake south of the mini-golf course in Twin Rocks. I

We also encountered 7 brown pelicans, 3 near the Barview Jetty at 8:30am and
4 on the three graces in Garibaldi at around 4pm. According to Owen
Schmidt, it was the first time in 39 years that they were counted during a
CBC. It was also the first time in 39 years that it rained 100% of the
time. When we were at the jetty at 8:30am, they closed the jetty due to the
high winds. A few minutes earlier I was almost blown over standing on rocks
birding the 3 graces!!!!
