This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Monday, December 16th, evening
update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature birds are: RUDDY TURNSTONE

Sightings for Monday, December 16th

At the base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty on the south side
an immature RUDDY TURNSTONE was found amongst a dozen BLACK
TURNSTONES.

Sunday, December 15th

Rare Bird Alert! At the base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty this
morning a RED PHALAROPE was observed sitting close to shore.

The Vancouver Natural History Society held its annual Christmas Bird
Count today despite the horrible weather. The tally was small at 118
species but there were a couple of highlights.

At Iona Island an adult HARRIS'S SPARROW was seen throughout the day.
Off the tip of the South Jetty 5 ANCIENT MURRELETS and a couple of
MARBLED MURRELETS were reported.

At Prospect Point in Stanley Park was a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER.

There was some good news today with a sighting of 2 CRESTED MYNAS
hanging on at 1st and Wylie in Vancouver.

At the concession stand at Lynn Canyon Park a BARRED OWL was seen.

Saturday, December 14th

At the Reifel Refuge 3 AMERICAN BITTERNS were seen on the foreshore
close to the outer dyke on the hightide.
