Hello Tweeters,

In addition to what everyone else has reported for yesterday, 12/18
(Bean Goose seen fairly well near the pump house location and from the nearby
dike, three Snow Geese still present, etc.), Carol Schulz and I had a few
other birds. In the goose flock that held the Bean and Snow Geese were seven
Vancouver Canadas and four Dusky Canadas. Red Phalaropes were slowly
recovering from their exhaustion just about everywhere, hyperactively picking
insects off the water surface or dunking their heads in the water. We had
over sixty at the pump house location (including several that allowed me to
get exceptionally good frame-filling video), another was in a school yard in
Hoquiam, and many more were around the Hoquiam STP and Bowerman Basin. A
Swamp Sparrow was heard again at the end of the boardwalk (Sandpiper Trail)
in the Reed Canary-Grass, but was seen for only a split second. I also heard
this bird on December 9, and the Sullivans got it on the CBC on the 14th.
Many thousands of Dunlin were also present at Bowerman Basin, and a female
columbarius Merlin was perched along the trail.
