On Thursday, Dec. 19, the Red-shouldered Hawk was present midway out on the
dike that deadends at the river mouth. At the base of that dike there was a
Swamp Sparrow. Also interesting was the large number of Purple Finches
spread over the area. I found three flocks of four to eight individuals
including several adult males. All the flocks allowed quite close approach.
It is seldom that I see this many Purple Finches together.
