Can someone out there can help with a title request sent to my library support
staff list, libsup_l. Please reply to my e-mail, and I will copy the info and
send it along to the requestor. The request is for title and author of a book
came with the following message:

"I believe the story was written sometime in the past 50-60 years, and
probably by an author who loves animals. I checked Paul Gallico's website,
and it wasn't written by him. Anyone who can help me I would greatly
appreciate it. Here is the synopsis:

The story is woven around a pair of geese, or ducks, or swans (can't remember
which) and the author refers to these geese, ducks or swans as "he" and "she"
and "him" and "her" and the way it's cleverly written, the reader believes
he's reading a love story about a man and a woman. Only at the end of this
very short story
does the reader discover that "he" and "she" are in fact these two waterfowl
who have mated for life (very common among these species). It's a story of
how well they take care of each other, how they raise their children, how "he"
fights off intruders from the "home", etc. Then they grow old, and I think
one of "them" dies. It's an intriguing vignette about the life of waterfowl
and how well they take care of one
another for life, and a very special story. I never thought I would have so
much difficulty in finding it.
