For 2002 the following birds were banded:

A total
of 1,530 individuals of 28 species and 1 subspecies.
74 Mourning Dove Because of poor
health due to arthritis and age (83) banding was
1 Sharp-shinned Hawk primarily confined to
using ground traps. The 1,530 added to
3 Cooper's Hawk the 97,377 banded
in previous years adds up to 98,907 birds.
1 Common Barn Owl in my lifetime. Birds
banded in my career as a wildlife biologist
1 Barred Owl and
administrator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in the
2 Northern Saw-whet Owl Western states of Alaska,
California, Hawaii, Montana, Oregon
1 Western Screech Owl and Washington as well
as after retirement in Washington. Both
3 Steller's Jay on station
and personal banding permits Swans, eagles, cranes,
1 European Starling albatrosses,
petrels, terns, tropicbirds, various species of waterfowl
1 Brown Headed Cowbird egrets, stilts and
various other species of waterbirds and passerines.
50 Red-winged blackbird Not counting species
banded while helping others band..
32 Brewer's Blackbird Banding was fun and
games compared to management of refuges and
2 Evening Blackbird wildlife in
general, law enforcement. dealing with the public, various agencies
1 Purple Finch and the
public, etc.. That's where the headaches are..

15 American Goldfinch Three House Finch
trapped had Avian Conjunctivitis while one
2 Pine Siskin had Fowl Pox
nodules on one leg. No evidence of these diseases
21 Savannah Sparrow were found on other
birds in 2002.
262 Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrow
8 Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow The Lazuli Bunting was trapped
by Jack Fletcher near the Three
202 Golden-crowned Sparrow Crabs area north of Sequim
on 2-6-02.
191 Dark-eyed Junco (Oregon)
40 Song Sparrow With the continual
growth of housing developments in and around Sequim,
4 Lincoln Sparrow there is a notable
change in use and amount of bird species .Like
16 Fox Sparrow everywhere else.
28 Spotted Towhee
1 Lazuli Bunting Maybe it's time
