My favorite wastewater treatment facilities are both in Clark
County, the Washougal Sewage Lagoons and the Fruit Valley Wastewater
plant in the Vancouver Lake Lowlands. The Washougal lagoons are
surrounded by the Steigerwald Lake Refuge and have hosted White-faced
Ibis, Tufted Duck, Barrow's Goldeneye, and all three phalaropes, along
with Black Phoebe. The Fruit Valley Ponds are excellent for diving ducks
with over five hundred scaup (both species), Ring-necked Ducks, Ruddy
Ducks, and even a record of Long-tailed Duck on last year's Sauvie Island
