Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday December 26. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls

On December 20 two RUFFS were found at Stewart Pond in West Eugene. They are
still being seen. The BLUE JAY is still at the Springtree Apartments in SE
Portland. A possible immature male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK is now coming to a
feeder in Pacific City.

A male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE is wintering in Brookings. Twelve LAPLAND LONGSPURS
were at Flores Lake December 23. That day a NASHVILLE WARBLER was in
Riverside, east of Bandon. On December 21 a LONG-TAILED DUCK was at Bandon.
The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW is still on the North Spit of Coos Bay. A HARRIS'S
SPARROW was on the east side of Coos Bay December 22.

Good numbers of RED PHALAROPES were along the coast during the week and a
few BROWN PELICANS are still around. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was off Boiler Bay
December 21 along with 60 KITTIWAKES and 13 ANCIENT MURRELETS. On December
22 Six SNOW BUNTINGS were at Sand Lake, south of Tillamook, and one was on
the beach at Fort Stevens SP.

On December 20, three RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS, five WHITE-TAILED KITES, and
four ROUGH-LEGGED HAWKS were at Ridgefield NWR. The KITES were all on the
closed Bachelor Island. Over a dozen SHORT-EARED OWLS are also in the area,
and others are well scattered through the Willamette Valley. On December 25
two VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOWS and a BARN SWALLOW were on the refuge. On December
23 two KITES and a ROSS'S GOOSE were at Steigerwald NWR near Washougal.

A PRAIRIE FALCON is now along Oak Island Road on Sauvie Island and a large
flock of SNOW GEESE is conspicuous on the east side of the Island. On
December 23 a RED-THROATED LOON was on the Columbia River near the Portland
Airport. A group of BARROW'S and COMMON GOLDENEYE are now at Eagle Creek
above Bonneville Dam.

On December 24 a FERRUGINOUS HAWK was west of North Plains along Hwy 26 just
west of the Hwy 6 junction. An adult GLAUCOUS GULL is now in the Forest
Grove area and has been seen about the Fernhill Wetlands. A PRAIRIE FALCON
was south of Salem December 23. Nine RED PHALAROPES were at Fern Ridge
Reservoir December 21. On December 24 two LESSER YELLOWLEGS were at Stewart
Pond in West Eugene. A PALM WARBLER is still being seen there.

On December 21 two SCRUB-JAYS were in Antelope. The next day two LONG-TAILED
DUCKS and a RED-NECKED GREBE were on Lake Billy Chinook near Madras. On
December 22, 1500 TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS were counted near O'Neil NE of
Redmond.
