This is the Vancouver Bird Alert for Friday, December 27th, evening
update, sponsored in part by the Wild Birds Unlimited Stores in
Vancouver and North Vancouver.

The feature bird is: GLAUCOUS GULL

Species noted:

Black Turnstone
Common Yellowthroat
Eurasian Wigeon
Glaucous Gull
Greater Yellowlegs
ICELAND GULL
Long-tailed Duck
Northern Pygmy-Owl
Osprey
Ruddy Turnstone

Sightings for Friday, December 27th

An adult winter plumaged GLAUCOUS GULL was found in a field at 60th Ave and
River Road in Delta.

Sightings for Thursday, December 26th

A 2nd yr ICELAND GULL was watched at close range in Stanley Park's Lost
Lagoon. The bird was on the south side near the nature house in the company
of other gulls.

In Abbotsford in the 6900 block of Bradner Road an OSPREY was well observed
in the afternoon soaring in the wind over a yard.

On the south side base of the Tsawwassen Ferry Jetty the immature RUDDY
TURNSTONE was again present with a large flock of BLACK TURNSTONES.

At the base of Blackie Spit near the boardwalk the COMMON YELLOWTHROAT
continues to be found. Also in the area were 3 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 2
EURASIAN WIGEON and 1 LONG-TAILED DUCK.

A NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL was seen in the afternoon at the old Ioco townsite
in Port Moody.

Another NORTHERN PYGMY-OWL continues to be seen at the Maplewood
Conservation Area in North Vancouver.

There were no reports all week.
