We live in a passive solar home on San Juan Island. The winter sun window
area is about 70 feet long by 24 feet high. We had birds crashing against
windows throughout the year.

One summer afternoon on the way to Roche Harbor, Ron saw something twisting
and reflecting various colors at the vineyards. He went back and learned
about holographic gardening tape. Our local Ace Hardware store gets it for
him. We have a strip of this fastened to the top frame in the middle of
each window. (It is gray, about an inch wide and reflects a rainbow of
colors.). It flaps in the breeze. It did take a while to get accustomed to
the tape and its flapping. We replace the tape as needed--couple of times a
year or following a wild windstorm.

The drop in bird kills has been significant. We still have a few kills.

The people we know who have tried this also feel it has sharply reduced the
number of window kills.
