Dark head, light bib, somewhat indistinct belly band, football shaped body (like me), dark eye, yellowish legs = Adult Red-tailed Hawk. Beak's too big relative to the head to be a Rough-legged, also the legs are bare, the head's too dark and the belly band is not dark enough. Others will agree. That coloring is common in the west. Totally cool bird. Does the voice-overs for almost all the eagle cries you hear on TV (such as Northern Exposure). Has more colors in its wardrobe than a 13-year-old girl at the mall with money to spend.
