Greetings all -

Steve Mlodinow, Dennis Duffy and myself birded several areas of Clark County
and the Woodland area of Cowlitz County yesterday Saturday 2/2/02. We
started out with some passerine birding at a railroad track intersection
along Fruitland Avenue in Vancouver, with the fog enshrouding the fields so
that we couldn't really look through all the geese and other birds at a
distance. So an hour's worth of birding along Fruitland produced a few nice
birds.
Varied Thrush
Hutton's Vireo
Anna's Hummingbird - 1 pair
and the usual chickadees, towhees, scrub jays and sparrows.

Down near Vancouver Lake in the farm fields, we had a flock of Blackbirds
feeding in the fields that contained 3 Tricolored Blackbirds, 2 imm Males, 1
adult male. This is the same general area that Steve had his Rusty
Blackbird back in November.
Farther down the road towards Post Office Lake, in one of the Wildlife area
pull-offs, we had 180+ Golden-crowned Sparrows 25 or so White-crowned
Sparrows, 7 White-throated Sparrows, and 1 Swamp Sparrow.
At another location near Post Office Lake, we had about 50 Western
Meadowlarks grouping together, and the usual numbers of Canada Geese, though
nothing sticking out that was white or white-headed. Closer to Vancouver
Lake, we encounterd 2 Great Egrets.

The Dike Access Road of Woodland produced 2 more White-throated Sparrows (No
Clay-colored Sparrow), 1 Rough-legged Hawk, many gulls feeding on the Smelt,
mostly Ring-bills, Mew, Glaucous-winged, and a few Western. And 17 Great
Egrets.
I'm sure I left some things out, but hey, I'm in a rush and tired ;-)
Cheers and Good Birding
