Tweeters,

Beautiful day at Magnuson, the Northern Cascades were brilliantly lit by
sunlight, while Mt. Rainier was softly shadowed by cloud cover. There were
more Western Grebes than I have seen on the lake before. Saw a flock of
about fifteen what I believe were Western Sandpipers, a large dog was in the
water and they didn't hang around long, their synchronized flight was so
close to the surface they almost ran into the waterfowl on the lake. They
were camouflaged perfectly against the rocky shore and waded out into the
water farther than other species I've seen. Also new were about ten Lesser
Scaup. There were some Canvasbacks, Canada Geese, Mallards, American Wigeons
and Barrow's Goldeneyes. Also present were alot of Robins, Starlings, some
Red-winged Blackbirds, Ring-billed Gulls, Glaucous Gulls, Common Crows and
two Orange-crowned Warblers. The lake has been surprisingly low all winter.
I watched three Crows feeding along the shore and one of them landed on a
signpost and cracked open a small freshwater mollusk and ate the tiny morsel
inside.
